Our Mission

Redeemer Church exists to make and send out disciple of Jesus Christ.

Our hearts desire is to join God on his mission (the Great Commission) and make disciples who love Jesus with all their heart, soul, and mind (the Great Commandment).

Our Vision

Our vision for Redeemer Church is to be multiplying disciples who saturate the St. Johns area and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And we believe this happens one relationship at a time.

Our Values

Unashamedly Biblical, Gospel Centered, Faithful Preaching, Multiplying Discipleship, Bold Evangelism, Authentic Worship, Fervent Prayer, Real Community

CORE VALUES

Unashamedly Biblical

We unashamedly stand on the Word of God. We desire to be a church that is firmly rooted on the authority, inspiration, inerrancy, and preservation of scripture. We believe that the Word of God is the ONLY source for all truth and life.

Gospel Centered

We believe the Gospel is the ONLY message that saves. We desire to be a church that proclaims, protects, and lives out the Gospel. It is the message of the Gospel that humanity finds hope and new life in Christ. Therefore, we desire to be Gospel-Centered in ALL that we do as a church.

Faithful Preaching

We value faithful expository preaching of the Word of God. We believe the Word of God is sufficient for all Faith and Practice. Therefore, we believe by faithfully preaching God’s Word we learn who God is, who we are, and how we should live.

Multiplying Discipleship

We value discipleship because Jesus commanded us to make disciples before he ascended to heaven. We believe every disciple is commanded to be a disciple-maker. We believe the main function of the church is to train and equip believers to be faithful disciples who are making faithful disciples.

Bold Evangelism

We strive to be a church that takes the message of salvation to the lost. We desire to boldly share the message of salvation (the Gospel) with urgency as if people’s eternity depends upon it. We believe EVERY believer is called to share the message of salvation, as they go, with those around them.

Authentic Worship

We value authentic worship. We believe authentic worship is a disposition of the heart and mind, so we want to be a church that daily worships the Lord individually and corporately worships the Lord together around the preaching of the Word, prayer, and singing. We believe authentic worship is a natural response to a Spirit filled life.

Fervent Prayer

We believe prayer is a believer’s greatest resource. We strive to be a church that seeks the Lord in private and corporate prayer. We believe our Lord desires to hear from His children and delights to answer their prayers (according to His will). As believers we are commanded to come confidently to God’s throne with our praise, confession, thanksgiving, and requests.

Real Community

We believe the Christian life should not be lived alone. Therefore, we desire to be a church known by our love for one another. We desire to be a community of believers that finds real love, hope, and unity in Christ.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Bible

We believe that God has revealed Himself to us in the 66 books of the Bible, the Word of God. We teach that the Bible is verbally inspired by God in every word, and is inerrant in the original writings. The Bible is the final authority in doctrine and practice in living the Christian life in a way that is pleasing to God. Because God gave us the Bible for a purpose, we believe that God has supernaturally preserved His Word. We believe the Bible should be interpreted in a grammatical-historical way, depending on the genre of the specific passage. As such, we believe that the opening chapters of Genesis represent true history, that the Earth was created in six literal 24-hour days, that God created only two genders, male and female, and instituted marriage as only between a man and woman. According to the Bible, all people are created in the image of God, and life, therefore, is sacred from conception, and to be protected.

God

We teach that there is one true God who exists in three persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (the Trinity). God is eternal, holy, and perfect, just, merciful, and loving, unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, and omnipresent. He is Creator of all things and upholds all things by His power.

Man

We believe in a literal and historical Adam, created by God in His image, completely perfect and free of sin. However, Adam sinned by disobeying God and lost his innocence. Adam’s sin resulted in the penalty of physical and spiritual death, passed on the sin nature to all mankind, and cursed all of creation, resulting in disease, death and suffering. Since God cannot have fellowship with sin, and all have sinned by choice, all of mankind is deserving of God’s eternal wrath in a place of conscious torment called hell. Because of man’s sinful nature, he is incapable of choosing or doing that which is acceptable to God, apart from divine grace and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Christ

Jesus Christ, who has existed from all of eternity as the Son, the second person of the Trinity, through God’s plan before the foundation of the world, became human, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, fully God and fully man, for the purpose of redeeming mankind from God’s wrath resulting from man’s sin. Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, never sinned, unjustly suffered, and was crucified on a cross, and rose the third day from the dead.

Salvation

Christ’s suffering and death paid the penalty for men’s sin, and His resurrection from the dead proved that His sacrifice satisfied the wrath of God, allowing man to be declared righteous before God based solely on Christ’s righteousness, saving him/her from the penalty of hell and restoring him/her into a right relationship with God, resulting in eternal life in the presence of God. Eternal life is a free gift from God, not based on any merit of good works whatsoever from the individual, but based entirely on God’s grace. This salvation becomes a reality only when an individual responds in faith and repentance, fully trusting in the person and work of Christ and acknowledging their sin and guilt before God. We believe that genuine faith inevitably results in a change of behavior in obedience to God and a desire to please God.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully and equally God as the third person of the Trinity. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ. He convicts of sin, regenerates the sinner, and baptizes all believers in Christ into one body, the Church. He indwells, guides, comforts, and empowers every believer for godly living, and edifies the Church by bestowing spiritual gifts upon believers. We believe the sign gifts such as the gifts of healing and tongues are not applicable to the church today as part of its normal operation, as they were in the early church, where, before the completed revelation of the Bible was available, they served to authenticate the message of the Gospel.

Return of Christ and Final Judgement

We believe in the literal, bodily return of Christ, who will rapture his Church and will, one day judge the living and the dead.

Ordinances

We believe that Christ instituted two ordinances for the church, baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion). Water baptism by immersion is a public declaration of faith in Christ and identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic commemoration of Christ’s death until He returns, celebrated by believers only, and after careful self examination.
